Rows of stone collected from along the edges of nearby farmer’s fields are transformed into a breathtaking abstract sculpture. By capturing additional snow in the winter, the sculpture acts as a collection basin for meltwater and helps recharge the moraine aquifer. However, these stones are more than just a functional part of the landscape, they tell a story that stretches back generations.
From early colonialism and land speculation to more recent environmental activism fighting to protect the Greenbelt, the stones of Contour Park embody the economic, political, and cultural struggles that have shaped this place.

Located on treaty land and the traditional territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation of the Anishinaabek Peoples. The straight lines of stones that delineate the edge of adjacent fields reflects a colonial settler logic that normalized a land ethic based on conquest and exploitation.
By repurposing these cast-off stones and resettling them in a manner that respects the interconnected natural systems of the land, Contour Park subverts this narrative and creates a new vision of our relationship with the land.

But with my land-art works, I strive to change this narrative, to raise awareness of the complex and often conflicting relationships between humans and nature. With over 15 years of experience as a professional landscape architect working in the public realm, I bring a unique perspective to my art practice. Drawing on my deep understanding of the environment and how humans interact with it, I create works that are not only aesthetically beautiful but also deeply meaningful.
Now a full-time artist, my focus is on public art that challenges and inspires. Through my work, I aim to push boundaries, break down barriers, and create a more just and equitable world for all. For me, art is not just a job – it is a calling, a passion, and a way of life.

Our planning process has accounted for potential weather-related delays, and we have implemented measures to minimize any setbacks, such as setting aside funds for additional equipment rental if necessary.
It’s important to note, only the “Hands in the Dirt” reward is dependent on the construction schedule, while all other rewards will be fulfilled upon reaching our funding goal.
